The Fruitvale History Project has conducted over 50 oral history interviews to date with activists who were involved in organizations dealing with issues including healthcare, legal assistance, education, housing, the arts, community affairs, political organizing, and more. The photos on this page show some of those interviewed.
These oral/video histories paint a deep picture of the activism in the Fruitvale of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, an activism that was an example for communities throughout the U.S.
We are still doing more interviews and are working to make them available for students, researchers and the public in general. Stay tuned!
